Will attachments be delivered with HTML email?

I have a client for whom I’m designing marketing newsletters and he wants to include some pdf attachments, at least with the first one, that directly relate to the content and his business. I have heard that attachments are not allowed by some email service companies because they could get the email blocked by spam filters. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, would all filters be likely to block it or just some?
Thanks.

When it comes to sending email campaigns, it’s always best to link to a PDF that is posted to an external web server vs sending attachments.  This will ensure you maximize your deliverability.

For example:

Posting attachments in your email is one of the quickest ways to end up in everyone’s spam folder… big no-no.  Always link to a page/pdf/etc.
