What’s the word on using hex color values vs. rgb?  I’ve heard that rgb is less reliable in email, but am seeing use of rgb in successful email templates.

Thanks!

edit: whups I think this should be in the other forum.

Hey Joel!

I tested all email clients.  The only one that does NOT support RGB values is Lotus Notes 8.

For example:

<font style="color:rgb(255,0,0)">Is this Red?</font

All other forms of declaring a color work in all email clients:

Short hand hexadecimal:

<font style="color:#F00">Is this Red?</font

Long hand hexadecimal:

<font style="color:#F00">Is this Red?</font

Color name:

<font style="color:red">Is this Red?</font

I ran this test in the following email clients:
Outlook07
Windows Live
Windows Mail
Thunderbird 2
Thunderbird 3
iPad
Android Gmail
Android
iPad Gmail
Yahoo Beta
Yahoo
Yahoo Classic
Gmail
Hotmail
Lotus Notes 6.5
Lotus Notes 7
Lotus Notes 8
Lotus Notes 8.5
Outlook 2010
Outlook Express
Outlook 2003
Entourage 04
Entourage 08
Mac Mail
iPhone
iPhone Gmail
AOL

Cheers and happy testing!
