Roll Out the Red Carpet
Who needs 6 degrees?!
We’ve got a direct line to fame and fortune right here in the office. Our celebrity connection at Email on Acid is our Systems Engineer, Tonniel Chin! Chin… does that ring a bell for any pop culture or music aficionados out there? If you haven’t made the connection yet, our very own Tonniel is the brother of Tessanne Chin, the winner of The Voice season 5 (queue the confetti falling from the ceiling).
Tessanne has been pursuing her musical career since the ripe age of 6 years old. It seems the apple didn’t fall far from the tree as Tessanne’s mother was the trumpeter and singer in her band called The Carnations and her father was the band’s drummer.
Before The Voice, Tessanne had already made waves in the Jamaican music scene having toured for 3 years with Jimmy Cliff. Her reggae fusion and rock soul set her apart from other singers, and she gained international attention when opening for famous acts such as Patti Labelle, Peabo Bryson and Gladys Knight.
Flashback to last December
One year before Tessanne claimed the crown with her jaw-dropping talent, our co-worker Tonniel told us about his sister who was a talented singer, but no one could have possibly comprehended how talented she was. It was then that he mentioned in his proud big brother voice that his sister was trying out for a prized spot on the Emmy Award winning, number one series on NBC: The Voice.
Needless to say, it has been a roller coaster of a ride for Tessanne and the whole Chin family. From her epic blind audition that earned her a four chair turnaround to her FLAWLESS rendition of “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston, she has shown America she’s a force to be reckoned with.
One of our very own makes their television debut
Tessanne wasn’t the only one that got camera time when she won. Email on Acid celebrated the announcement of the new winner the right way by joining Tonniel’s family, friends and 9News TV. After Tessanne took the title of The Voice at 10pm MDT on December 17th, champagne bottles popped and it was time for Tonniel to make his television debut with the 9News film crew.
We couldn’t be more proud of Tonniel, Tessanne and the whole Chin family and feel so lucky we got to experience this journey with them. We can’t wait to see what Tessanne comes out with next. Who knows, maybe she’ll be so kind to make a guest appearance at our holiday party and serenade us with a song…fingers crossed!
