Pottery Barn’s Classy Christmas

Pottery Barn recently sent out this holiday email with a festive red/white color scheme and it really caught our eye. The subject, “3 days left to save 15% on everything!” demands attention, and helped reinforce the incentive offer below.

Pottery Barn holiday email

The whole email is built around a gorgeous image of a red and white martini glass with a strongly blurred background. The incentive offer is highlighted with a large, serif font, while the surrounding text is smaller and sans-serif. White-on-red text used for the discount code matches text used elsewhere in the email and pays a nice complement to the subtle color scheme.

I also liked that they tried to keep it short. The larger image on top contains their incentive offer, and the three images below on the left are each connected to an important topic in the email (as opposed to advertising a single product, like the one on the right.)

On an iPhone their incentive offer, prominently placed on the top left, will still be above the fold. Some of the navigation options along the top will be difficult to touch-navigate, but most of the options below the featured image should be easy to touch.

On android this email might look giant sized, but with some extra scrolling it’s still readable.

Lastly, I should mention that this email didn’t look great with images blocked.

With so much text in their email, this could be a great opportunity to use our new Mozify tool. Mozify allows you to optimize your email for image blocking by inserting mosaics and stylize text. Here’s our 15 minute Mozy-makover for Pottery Barn:
