Rumors about Outlook 2013 – Confirmed

Its rendering engine? MS Word.

As we gear up to add Outlook 2013 to our expanding list of supported email client previews, we find ourselves confirming what some have already pointed out. The MS Word rendering engine is unfortunately here to stay for the next several years.

It’s no secret that Microsoft faces increasing competition from Google. As much as we hate to admit, it’s understandable that Microsoft would stay loyal to users of their flagship product – Microsoft Office. Let’s face it, no one is lining up outside their offices complaining about how advertisements render in their inbox. If Outlook users want to seamlessly cut and paste Excel spread sheets, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations, they are going to get their way, whether we like it or not. Even if that means trumping HTML email developers across the globe in their concerted efforts toward a much needed change.

We are aiming to release email previews for Outlook 2013 in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned.

…well, sure…not just one, but many thousands are, I expect way more than those who are actually cutting and pasted into outlook from word. They’ve completely ignored the community complaints from around the globe and gone completely against their own “word” (http://fixoutlook.org/) (http://www.email-standards.org/blog/entry/microsoft-prove-theyre-listening/). I don’t know about the rest of the community, but when i explain to paying clients the Microsoft agenda the majority still can’t work out why it costs to produce fix upon fix…my clients want ever cheaper work done and quite honestly it’s corrosive.
